Understanding Home Health Care

When I was diagnosed with a serious condition, I didn't know where to start with my treatment. Fortunately, my doctor recommended a great home health care company, and they came right in to take care of things. They were incredibly kind and caring, and before I knew it, I started to feel a lot better. I wanted to create a blog all about home health care to remove some of the misconceptions people have about the service. This blog is dedicated to creating an environment of healing right inside of your very home. Check out this blog for great information.

3 Important Tips For Getting Home Health Care Covered By Medicare

Blog

If you have a condition where you are currently homebound, and you are on Medicare, you may be able to qualify for home health care. Home health care can provide a variety of services, from skilled nursing care to help with everyday tasks such as bathing and meal preparation. When it comes to getting home health services covered by Medicare, there are a few important elements you need to understand.

Important Time #1: Need to Be Homebound

In order to qualify for homecare and have that care be paid by Medicare, you need to be homebound.

Essentially, being homebound means that you are suffering either from a particular illness or injury that significantly restricts your ability to leave your home without the use of some type of aid.

That aid could be a wheelchair, walker, or even crutches. Or you could have additional medical equipment you need to use at all times, like oxygen, that makes it difficult for you to leave the home without assistance.

So, if you can still get around like normal, go to a place of employment, and engage in regular activities, you are not going to qualify as homebound.

Important Tip #2: Need Skilled Care Due to Your Health Condition

Next, in order to get Medicare to pay for home health services, you need to have a need for skilled care, either on an intermittent or part-time basis. You need to require care in order to maintain your health. That care could help you maintain your health, prevent your health from getting worse, or that could be focused on recovering and improving your health.

Basically, you need to be able to show that having home health care is essential in order to maintain or improve your health or prevent your health from further declining.

Important Tip #3: Need a Doctor's Support

One of the most important elements if you want to get home health care paid for by Medicare is having the support of your doctor. You need a doctor who can visit you in-person before the home health care starts, and after it has been started.

You need a doctor who will recommend that you need home health care, and who will follow through with in-person visits and complete the required paperwork in order for you to maintain that care. You need a doctor who is invested in your care.

If you want to get home health services that are covered by Medicare, you need to work with a doctor, you need to demonstrate that home health care is essential for your health, and you need to be homebound. If you meet those criteria, Medicare should approve a Medicare-approved home health agency to provide you with assistance.
