Change The Bed Linens
You may need to change the sheets more than once a day if they happen to become wet or soiled. At the very least, you'll want to change them at least daily. Although this sounds like an easy job, it can be difficult if your parent is unable to get out of bed and you have to change the sheets around them. If your parent is very heavy, you may have difficulty rolling them. Changing the sheets with two people increases your parent's safety and comfort. A nursing assistant will also make sure the sheets are tight so there are no wrinkles or lumps to cause discomfort and bedsores.
Get Your Parent Out Of Bed
If your parent can tolerate it and the doctor agrees, you'll probably want to get your mother or father out of bed as much as possible. This helps prevent skin sores and other medical problems. It's also a nice change of pace for your parent, but it can be unsafe to transfer your parent by yourself. With a person on each side, your parent can stand and walk with enough assistance to stay safe.
Bathe Your Parent And Provide Oral Care
A nursing assistant can give your parent a bed bath if necessary or help your parent in and out of the tub. You may feel more comfortable with this arrangement if your parent is of the opposite sex as you. A nursing assistant ensures your parent is clean each morning and has clean teeth and brushed hair. This helps your parent feel better and staying clean helps prevents skin infections.
Provide Supervision While You're Away
Havingnursing assistance to help at your home gives you the chance to leave for a few hours to go shopping and do other chores. You'll have peace of mind knowing that a trained health professional is caring for your parent and keeping them safe while you're away. The nursing assistant provides companionship, offers water to prevent dehydration, and feeds your parent snacks and meals. Having help from a home care company takes some of the work and stress from you so you can stay healthy and well-rested while you care for your disabled loved one.
